“TODAY AT THIS TYRE AND SIDON YOU ARE WHOLE”
Saint Matthew 15. 21-28
Reminiscere - The Second Sunday in Lent: 4 March Anno Domini 2007
Fr Watson
The Devil was bested by Christ in the Wilderness - - - but only left until an opportune
time.
When you’re not in the Word
When you’re not in Prayer (in the Word)
When you’re not drowning the Old Adam (in the Word of Baptism)
When you’re not longing for or receiving the Supper (the Word Distributed)
The Devil is to blame for misfortune NOT GOD
The World is to blame for sorrow NOT GOD
You, as SINNER are to be blamed for misery and suffering NOT GOD
Adam told God He wanted to do things his way - - So do you
Cain murdered Abel - - you kill your brother, sister, neighbor, friend when you
hold grudges, fail to put the best construction on actions
and demand your own way
These are the opportune times for Satan - - then devils will vex
When one is not in Eden, b/c of sin, they will be in the wilderness
When one is not with Christ in the “Promised Land” of His Green Pastures, the
New Israel of His Fold/Church they will be in Canaan
A spiritual wilderness of non-belief, paganism, Pharisaism….DEVILS
If the Commandments do not get ones attention….
Then death will Then pain will Then heartache will
Then having ones little daughter demon possessed will.
You feel devils prowling about don’t you? You feel sin crouching at your door don’t
you?
Jesus HAS departed from Heaven and come into the coasts of Tyre and Sidon
i.e. Jesus has departed from Glory to become your Savior!
Jesus has come to the Tyre and Sidon (the Gentile abode) of your tumultuous life
The Woman called out “Have Mercy on me, O Lord”
Why? She believed He would (she hoped… isn’t that faith, even
weak?
At some point the HS had given Her Jesus; had given Her faith. Her faith had clamped down on the Lord.
You call out to Jesus today (as you did yesterday, and as you will tomorrow)
“HAVE MERCY ON ME, O LORD”
Have mercy on me for I am grievously vexed by devils!
At first Jesus did not answer the woman - - He exercised her faith to make it grow
stronger, even as He would soon
exorcise the demon to make Satan’s
kingdom grow weaker.
At first the Lord may appear not to be answering you.
Jesus cares. He loves not with feelings but with flesh Not with earthly
“benefits” but with blood
Jesus will grant you your faithful request to be given Mercy.
Jesus is the Merciful One. He is Mercy in bodily form…. not the emotion of sympathy but the embrace of true empathy.
Jesus doesn’t feel sorry for you. He works for you. He suffers for you
Jesus died for you.
How will he not now keep you and protect you AND FEED YOU what’s best
Jesus became like a solitary stalk of wheat, a lone seed crushed, ground up, destroyed and thrown to the ground…. into the ground, the tomb
Jesus kneaded roughly (whipped, slapped, punctured) like dough –
baked hellishly hot in the furnace of the Father’s righteous hatred of your
trespasses
Jesus rises like the most delicious, golden, sweet buttery smelling loaf of bread
on Easter morn….. for you!
For He is not your crumb fallen from the table but Your BREAD OF HEAVEN
placed on your tongue at the Banquet Altar… your wedding toast…..
A toast, a promise, a guarantee, a TESTAMENT of the even better Feast yet to
come!
Blessed Son and Daughters… from this very hour…. your own demon possessed daughters and sons are made well, today at this Tyre and Sidon you are made well, WHOLE!
In Jesus Name
